Malmesbury

Malmesbury is a town of approximately 36 000 inhabitants in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, about 66 km north of Cape Town.

The first expedition in the direction of the present day Malmesbury was undertaken by Jan Wintervogel in 1655 by order of commander Jan van Riebeeck of the Dutch East India Company The area around Malmesbury was inhabited by the Khoi khoi and San and was soon referred to as ‘het Zwarteland ”(the Black Land), because the veld, covered by Renosterbos
an indigenous plant that turns black in the warm, dry summers.

The Municipality has been rated under the top 5 leading municipalities in South Africa and achieved a financial stability score in the 2020/21 financial year of 82.

The double carriage N7 highway is the major connecting road between the Cape Town Metropole, Northern and Southern Suburbs of Cape Town Suburbs and Malmesbury Cape Town’s International Airport is a mere 66 km or 52 minutes’ drive from Malmesbury.

Malmesbury has well developed and maintained infrastructure, schools and other public facilities, a new regional shopping mall, De Zwartland Werf opening October 2023 and Crestcare 88-bed Private Hospital opening April 2024.
